⬇ Download for AndroidFinWise isn't on the Play Store — reading your bank SMS on-device to auto-detect transactions is the whole point of the app, and that's exactly the permission app-store review restricts. Because of that, Android shows a few extra security prompts during install. None of them mean something is wrong — here's what each one means and what to tap.
Android blocks installs from outside the Play Store by default. When prompted, tap Settings in the popup, then enable "Allow from this source" for your browser, and go back to install.
This is Google Play Protect flagging any app — from any developer — that reads SMS and wasn't installed via the Play Store. It's a blanket rule, not a finding about FinWise specifically. To proceed: Settings → Security & privacy → Google Play Protect → ⚙️ (top right) → turn off "Scan apps with Play Protect", then install. You can turn it back on after.
After installing, if the SMS permission won't turn on: Settings → Apps → FinWise → tap ⋮ (top right) → "Allow restricted settings" → confirm. Then go back into Permissions → SMS → Allow. This is Android's standard protection for any sideloaded app requesting SMS access — it's a one-time step per install.
Your bank sends a text for every transaction. FinWise reads those on-device to auto-log expenses and income — it's what saves you from typing every transaction by hand. Messages are parsed on your phone and never uploaded; see our Privacy Policy for exactly what does and doesn't leave the device.
