Privacy Policy
The short version: your money data stays on your phone. FinWise reads your bank SMS locally to organise your finances, and we have no server that stores your transactions, balances or vault. We do keep a basic account record (email, plan, payment status, support messages) so we can issue your licence and support you. We never sell your data.
1. Who we are

2. What data FinWise processes
- Bank & transaction SMS — read on your device to detect debits, credits, EMIs, bills, balances and similar. This processing happens locally; the messages are not uploaded to us.
- Information you enter — income, expenses, loans, goals, vault entries (insurance, banks, investments, EPF, documents) and account details. Stored in a local database on your device.
- Account credentials — the email and password you register are stored on your device to secure the app.
3. Where your data lives
Your financial data lives on your device only — FinWise has no cloud database of your transactions, balances, loans or vault. Backups you create are files you control and store where you choose (e.g. your own Google Drive). The app's sensitive vault is encrypted on-device.
We do keep a separate account record on our server (email, name, phone, plan, payment status, licence validity, and any support messages you send) — that's what lets us issue your licence and help you. The two are deliberately kept apart: your money data never reaches that server.
4. What we do NOT do
- We do not sell, rent or share your personal or financial data with third parties for marketing.
- We do not run ads or embed advertising trackers.
- We do not upload your SMS or transactions to a server.
5. When data leaves your device
- CA sharing (opt-in): if you choose to share a report with a Chartered Accountant, that specific report is shared only after your explicit in-app consent.
- Payments: to subscribe, you pay via UPI to our account and send a payment screenshot. We use it only to verify your payment and issue your licence key.
- App config & updates: the app fetches a small public configuration file (payment details, latest version) from our website. This request contains no personal data.
- Your account record: we keep an account on our server holding only your email, name, phone, plan, payment status and licence validity — so we can issue your licence, support you, and manage your subscription. Your financial data is never part of this: no transactions, SMS, balances, loans or vault entries are sent or stored.
- Support requests: when you use Feedback & Support in the app, the message you write (with the app version and the screens you selected) is sent to us so we can respond. Screenshots you attach are shared only through your own email/WhatsApp — we never receive them automatically.
- Crash reports (if enabled): anonymised diagnostics to help us fix bugs. No financial data is included.
6. Permissions we request
- SMS — to read bank transaction messages locally. This is the core of the app.
- Notifications — reminders and alerts you set.
- Storage / Camera — to attach bills or a payment screenshot, and to import/export backups, only when you use those features.
- Biometric — optional fingerprint sign-in, handled by your device.
7. Your rights
Because your data is on your device, you are always in control. You can edit or delete any entry, delete a backup, or uninstall the app to remove all local data. For any request, contact us at the email above.
8. Children
FinWise is not directed at children under 18.
9. Changes
We may update this policy. Material changes will be reflected here with a new "last updated" date.
